Members of the Antelope County Patriots filled the Antelope County commissioners' meeting room, Aug 9, to discuss those questions and other election procedures. Sheryl Baker approached the board and yielded her time to Professor David Clements, of New Mexico, and Connie Reinke with the Nebraska Voter Accuracy Project. A week after Clearwater’s planning and zoning commission recommended changing three tracts of land, owned by Deborah and Dwaine Trease, from residential to mixed-used development, Clearwater Village Board of Trustees approved the change during its Aug. 8 meeting. Nebraska’s new slogan “Honestly, it’s not for everyone” may be true for some people, but the one thing that may be for everyone is Nebraska’s beef. The state’s quality beef is what inspired the Nebraska Beef Council to launch the Nebraska Beef Passport, which includes Sly’s Family Bar and Grill in Neligh. According to nebeef.org, “The Nebraska Beef Council is a non-profit organization served by a nine-member board of directors. The volunteers oversee Nebraska’s beef checkoff and checkoff-fund...

She had recently graduated high school and was leaving soon for her first year at Wayne. She’s written stories f...

The annual wellness exam is one of my favorite things to do as a doctor. It’s a chance to talk about one of my passions: health promotion. As most patients expect, our health-promotion discussion includes smoking cessation, diet and exercise. Perhaps more surprising is our conversation regarding personal safety. We talk about sunscreen, seatbelts, helmets, distracted driving or driving under the influence. And I ask if their guns are locked up. I grew up in Iowa and I live in South Dakota. B...
This summer, headlines suggested that rolling blackouts across the country may be possible because of predicted above-average temperatures. Texas-based grid operator, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, and the Midcontinent Independent System Operator projected energy capacity shortfalls during peak summer temperatures. Similar to the ERCOT blackouts in February 2021, much of the blame for this shortfall has been unduly placed on renewable energy. However, as heat waves swept across the...
