    High school seniors from Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin now have a chance to receive one of 10 college scholarships worth $1,000. Registration is open through April 30. Parents are also now able to register their student. High school seniors or their parents may register for the ISL Midwest Senior Scholarship at www.IowaStudentLoan.org/Midwest.     A 19-year-old O’Neill man, originally accused of 11 criminal charges alleged April 9, 2023, has been found competent to stand trial. During Sept. 25, 2023, arraignment proceedings in the Holt County district courtroom in O’Neill, after the entry of a guilty plea to amended charges, the Honorable Mark Kozisek questioned defendant Ethan J.     Another round of winter storms are approaching the region. The National Weather Service, in Omaha, has issued a winter weather advisory, in effect from noon, Thursday, Jan. 18 to 6 a.m., Friday, Jan. 19. The advisory includes Antelope, Holt, Boyd, Knox, Wheeler, Boone and Madison counties. Snow accumulations up to two inches are possible, with heaviest snow amounts predicted for northeast Nebraska.     A rural Elgin woman was found deceased, Wednesday, according to Wheeler County Attorney Joe McNally. According to a press release issued by the attorney's office, at approximately 12:45 p.m., on Jan. 17, Wheeler County Sheriff's Office was notified of a death that occurred at 50859 Highway 70.
