While scrolling through my phone, I happened upon an article that caught my interest. The title: “20 Things to Do Instead of Scrolling Through Your Phone.” Ironic, right? Truth be told, I have been making a conscious effort to cut back on screen time. It’s tough, at times, because a large portion of work for the paper can be accomplished via phone. The article’s author, Aleid ter Weel, asserts the majority of Americans spend one full waking month of every year on their phones. That’s 31 days....
The moment I have been waiting for since my junior year of high school is almost here-student teaching. Starting Jan. 5, I will be Mr. Rudloff, student teacher at Lincoln Public Schools for Beattie Elementary, teaching third grade and kindergarten/first grade special education. There were some moments where I felt like this day would never come. Now that the day is practically here, I cannot help but feel anxious - yet excited - about the upcoming experience. While I am confident in my content...

What does it mean to practice humanity in medicine? The phrase is used as a tagline and in book titles. Humanity and compassion in medicine is touted as something to aspire to, a noble accomplishment. But in reality, the biomedical model of health, the business model for healthcare, is not set up to support it. Algorithms and best practices set forth by insurance companies and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid do not account for the time required to establish meaningful human interaction...

Summerland kept pace with the Blujays in the third quarter, but...

More than three million Americans and more than 60 million people worldwide have glaucoma, which is often referred to as "the sneak thief of sight" because there are often no symptoms of its presence. However, once vision is lost, it's permanent; as much as 40% of vision can be lost without a person noticing, which experts estimate is the case...

If I had been locked in a cave over the past few days with only Words With Friends on my phone to keep me occupied, I still would have known it was the New Year's holiday weekend. Even without my calendar app, Facebook or the Internet (except for the WWF connection), I would have known it was Jan. 1, 2022. How? Because all of a sudden every other ad that popped up between games was for NutriSystem or Weight Watchers. Marie Osmond and Oprah were working overtime. Because with the New Year comes...
Senator Tom Briese, of Albion, proposed constitutional amendment LR 268CA, on Thursday. The proposal would allow for the recall of state senators and governors. "We are a government of the people and our laws must reflect that. Currently, Nebraskans can recall local government officials. I think we...
